Library Guides and Handouts
The librarians at Indiana University Kokomo have developed Library guides and handouts to assist you in finding and using our resources. The Research Portal Web page also provides access to additional research guides.
Ask a Librarian Services
To help you with your classroom assignments and research projects where and when needed, the Library offers you a variety of ways to get in touch with a librarian. Here are more details on each of the services we provide:
At the Service Desk: A librarian is available at the service desk to assist you with your information needs. At the service desk, a librarian assist you with finding answers to your questions, selecting and navigating Library resources, and placing requests for materials located at libraries other than IU Kokomo - to name a few! Students and faculty are encouraged to ask for assistance in using the Library, and we will gladly assist users in answering questions and/or locating materials related to research topics or areas of interest.
By Appointment: For questions requiring extra time, the Library offers Reference By Appointment, a service whereby a user may schedule (at least 24 hours in advance) a half hour block of time with a librarian in order to find sources of information on challenging topics. If students or faculty would like to speak with a librarian about a library/research project, appointments for in-depth discussions of research needs can be set up at times that are mutually convenient for both parties. To schedule an appointment, call (765) 455-9521, or stop by the Ask A Librarian (Reference) Service Desk just inside the entrance to the Library.
By Chat: By connecting to Microsoft Lync, IU Kokomo students, faculty, and staff may chat with a librarian at iuklib or IUK Library - Ask A Librarian. Please note that it may take a few minutes to respond to your message if the librarian on duty is helping another user. Additionally, chat is only available when the Ask A Librarian service desk is open; refer to the table above for the service desk hours.
By E-Mail: Our Ask A Librarian E-mail service is intended to answer short, factual questions; your question will be directed to one of our librarians. If you have several questions or need in-depth information on a research topic, please come to the service desk in the Library or schedule an appointment during which a reference/research librarian can personally assist you. For e-mail questions, the goal is to respond to your question in two or fewer business days. Answers to questions submitted during holiday periods or semester breaks may be delayed because the Library is closed. Please see the 2013 Library Calendar (PDF) for hours and closed dates. Our e-mail service is intended for the students, faculty, and staff of Indiana University Kokomo. Persons affiliated with IU Kokomo must supply their University e-mail address to verify their status.
By Phone: University librarians are available by phone at (765) 455-9521. During the hours the service desk is open, librarians will answer brief questions by phone. For questions requiring in-depth research, the librarian may ask you to come to the Library for further assistance. When the librarian on duty is busy assisting other users or the service desk is closed, please leave a voicemail message with your name, question, and phone number at which you may be reached. A librarian will return your call as soon as possible.
