Writing Center

The Writing Center is located on the main floor of the library in KA-128

 

The mission of the IU Kokomo Writing Center is to enhance student academic success and, thereby, student retention. The staff of the Center works to provide assessment of and academic support for student writing skills in all disciplines through the creation of a caring and friendly environment conducive to learning. Additionally, the Center provides tutoring in Spanish. One-on-one tutoring sessions, workshops, and handouts are available for students. The Writing Center and its staff work in conjunction with the library staff to enhance students' understanding of writing and conducting research in an academic environment.

Materials/Resources Available in the Writing Center: 

     MLA and APA Style Manuals

     Dictionary & Thesaurus

     Bartlett's Familiar Quotations 

     Textbooks for W131, W132, S121 and Spanish courses

 

     Grammar Handbooks

     Elements of Style (video) 

     Podcasts (over 100 available -- various grammar, punctuation, etc.)   List of podcasts available

     Other resource books for writing and research 

     Office supplies, including free recycled folders

     Four Computer Stations

     Printer

 

In addition, QUICK HINTS (1-2 page handouts on specific rules and/or skills, such as commas, apostrophes, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, etc.) are available. See the revolving file immediately outside the Center.  List of documents available

IMPORTANT: This Center is available for student use during library hours even when the tutors are not working. Use the supplies and reference materials, or simply come in to work. This is your Writing Center.
