Proposal Guidelines

You will be required to submit a proposal for this the Research Paper Assignment. Your proposal should be submitted on or before its due date (see the L517 calendar) and should be approved by your instructor before you proceed with your research. Submitting a late proposal will result in a 1/2 letter grade deduction from your final paper grade. Failing to submit a proposal will result in a full letter grade deduction from your final paper grade.

Your proposal should include the following:

The question your research paper will try to answer. (You should be able to write this in 1 or 2 sentences.)

Sample questions:

How can literature be used effectively in the history classroom?

bullet

How can teachers plan discussions so that students actively respond to texts? 

bullet

How can teachers help their LEP (Limited English Proficient) students comprehend class readings?

bullet

How can teachers use technology to motivate reluctant readers in the science classroom?

 

(If you are interested in any of these sample topics, please feel free to write your paper on one of them.)

The bibliographic references for 3 published sources that will help you answer your question. For each of the three references, briefly explain what kind of information it contains that will help you answer the question that is the topic of your paper.  

 

You are not bound to your topic after submitting your proposal. You may change or re-focus your topic at any time. However, please e-mail your instructor to let her know of any changes you make to your topic after submitting and receiving instructor approval for your proposed topic.
