Below is a handout given to students prior to reading the text on "Friction and Gravity." (See Critique of a Lesson Plan: Science Lesson Plan.)

Vocabulary

Part 1: As you read pps. 55 to 61, you will come across the following vocabulary words. Use the definitions below to help you with these words when you encounter them:

Gravity: The force that pulls objects towards Earth.

Friction: The force that once surface exerts on another when the two rub against each other.

Projectile: An object that is thrown.

Mass: The amount of matter in an object.

Weight: The force of gravity on an object at the surface of a planet.
