Turning in Assignments and Grading

There are seven segments for the course. At the beginning of the class, you will contract with me for the grade you would like to earn.

  • To earn an A/A- in the class, plan on completing 6 of the 7 segments in one semester.

  • To earn a B+/B/B- in the class, plan on completing 5 segments of the class.

Please remember, that you can contract for an A/A- in the class and if work is not of A/A- quality, you can still earn a lower grade. The same is true for B+/B/B- work and quality. I grade each segment on a Pass/No Pass basis.

The rubric I use is as follows:

  • Parts 1 and 2 of your Notebook are excellent and reflect what a graduate student at the University of Indiana can do.

  • Weekly communication via e-mail and regular participation in the questions on the listserv.

  • During the regular academic year all assignments have to be completed by the end of the semester in order to earn an A/A-. Because summer session is shorter, summer session II students have until the end of Fall semester to earn an A/A-.

  • If excellence is achieved, you will earn the grade for which you contracted. If not, then you will not.

  • I will NOT remind you to turn in segments or to participate in the class. As graduate students it is your responsibility to stay current with the class.

If you intend to complete this course in one semester, pace yourself so that a new segment is completed and turned in about every 10  to 12 days. Pace yourself so that you can get feedback from your fellow classmates as well as me. The semester goes faster than you think possible, so pace yourself accordingly.

Many people have felt they needed more than one semester to finish the class. If you need more time, please ask, and it shall be granted. However, the maximum length of time to stay in the course is two semesters.

Plagiarism is not tolerated. The IU Student Code of Ethics applies to this class.
