If you have a strong academic background, wide interests, and leadership potential, we invite you to apply to this honors-level program. While LAMP has no pre-requisites for admission, students interested in LAMP are advised to take the freshman seminar, LAMP S104 Understanding a Local Economy. Similarly, students are encouraged (but not required) to take ECON E201 and E202, and BUS A100 in addition to completing the English composition and mathematics requirements, and beginning a foreign language in the freshman year.
Approximately 100 students are admitted to LAMP each year. Admission requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and students in the program must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3. Applicants should demonstrate that they have the broad interests and leadership potential both inside and out of the classroom crucial for success in LAMP. In order to have ample time to complete all LAMP requirements, we recommend that students apply in the spring of the freshman year. If you missed the freshman application period because you just found out about LAMP — don't worry. We are pleased to accept applications from sophomores in either the spring or fall application periods.
The spring application is primarily for freshmen and the deadline for applications is March 31. In the fall, we accept applications from sophomores and transfer students. Fall applications must be submitted by October 1.
The application process is relatively simple and has two components. First, all students complete an on-line application which provides you an opportunity to explain why you want to join LAMP, and to showcase your writing skills by answering a short essay question. Second, each student provides two letters of recommendation. The author of each letter should be well-versed with your academic interests and abilities, and will have, most preferably, taught you at Indiana University. Applicants must fill out and sign the first page of the recommendation letter.
