Career Development

Ellen Knecht at a Summer Internship at UBS

No matter what field you want to enter after graduating from IU, LAMP can help you prepare for your future. Because career exploration is central to LAMP, all our students take our own career development course, LAMP X298, as sophomores. To supplement the career exploration process that you begin in X298, LAMP has a series of activities which make up our Pathways to Professionalism series. This series provides opportunities to explore industries, careers and professions with the help of LAMP Professional and Executive Leadership Affiliates and LAMP alumni.

LAMP Professional and Executive Leadership Affiliates (PELA) are a small group of organizations from different areas of the private and non-profit sectors. All are among the most respected in their particular arena. LAMP's collaboration with this select group helps students see the broad range of opportunities in various careers and to assist in planning for a particular career.

Professional and Executive Leadership Affiliates offer small-group workshops and panels to our students in which they present their particular organizations, the industry in which it is located, and the challenges and opportunities of careers generally. Partners provide internship opportunities for LAMP students. And they actively seek to employ LAMP students in permanent positions. In most of these organizations, LAMP has alumni or special friends who assist us in our collaboration.

Current LAMP Professional and Executive Leadership Affiliates include:

Career and leadership development are central to LAMP and we encourage our students to participate in as many parts of the Pathways to Professionalism Series as possible. The Pathways to Professionalism Series follow on from the career exploration process and are targeted to LAMP juniors and seniors who are seeking internships, research, full-time employment opportunities. The Pathways to Professionalism Series is intended to help ease the transition from successful student to successful professional. Check the LAMP website for dates of upcoming sessions.
