Academic and personal growth, as well as career development, is an important aspect of the work of the minor. You will develop your voice and talents as you deepen your learning.
Greater understanding: The service experience is clearly connected to your course, providing a more in-depth and hands-on look at the theories explored through readings and class discussions.
Social awareness, civic responsibility: Because your service meets a genuine community need, you have the opportunity to realize that social problems exist around you, and that you can do something about them.
Reciprocity: Through a reciprocal relationship with a community agency, the community benefits and you learn from the experience.
Reflection: By reflecting on your service experiences - through journals, class discussions, essays and presentations - you deepen your understanding of the connections between your service and your academic work, as well as the connections between you and the world.
Applications must be submitted by the spring of your sophomore year.
