Jane Austen (1775-1817) published six novels: Emma, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility. Most of her works were published years after she originally wrote them, some posthumously. Mansfield Park was her first novel published, in 1812, but this was not the first novel she wrote. Pride and Prejudice was first written in 1797, but not published until 1813. Northanger Abbey was begun in 1798 and sold to a publisher in 1803, but wasn't actually publi shed until after her death in 1818. Sense and Sensibility was also begun in the 1790s, revised in 1797-8, and published in 1811. Emma was begun in 1814 and published in 1816. Persuasion was the last novel she wrote, and was published along with Northang er Abbey in 1818. She also worked on other novels that remained unfinished at her death.
