*Cook Music Library News, IUB
Recently the William & Gayle Cook Music Library has been the subject of several articles. The first, by the library's head Mary Wallace Davidson, was published as, "La bibliothèque de musique William et Gayle Cook de l'université de l'Indiana," in Bulletin des bibliothèques de France in January 2002. A considerably revised version was published in English as, "Indiana University's William & Gayle Cook Music Library: An Introduction" in Notes: Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association 59, no. 2 (December 2002). The library's head of collection development R. Michael Fling, currently the Assistant Editor of Notes, was responsible for several of the improvements. In the same issue, former staff member and alumnus John Andereis contributed an extensive article, based on archival resources here and elsewhere, about the music library's first head, Ethel Louise Lyman (1893-1974). Variations, and Variations2 (the later currently a research project under the aegis of the Digital Libraries Initiative-Phase 2, funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities) were also described in Mary's article, "Recent Trends in Technology in American Music Libraries," Fontes artis musicae, 48, no. 4 (2001 [i.e. Dec. 2002]).
