*Librarian for English and American Literature
After a national search that attracted an outstanding pool of candidates, Angela Courtney has accepted the position of Librarian for English and American Literature, effective April 1, 2003. Angela will also assume collection management responsibilities for Film Studies and Philosophy, and share in the work of the Reference Dept. Angelas most recent professional experience has been as Reference and Instruction Librarian at Fairfield University, where she is the liaison to the Theatre, Music, Film, and Philosophy departments. Prior to that, she served as Humanities Reference and Instruction Librarian at Auburn University, with responsibility for collection development in English Literature, Theatre, Communication, and Journalism.
Angela earned her M.L.I.S. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in English from the University of Georgia, and a B.A. in English, with a minor in Theatre, from James Madison University. Having completed her doctoral coursework in the Theatre department at the City University of New York, she plans to focus her dissertation on nineteenth century British and American melodrama. In addition to her experience in providing bibliographic instruction to both graduate and undergraduate students, Angela has also taught English composition and business writing at the University of Georgia and the Athens Area Technical Institute.
Angelas publications have included articles on William Saroyan, Edna Ferber, and Rufus Griswold for the Dictionary of Literary Biography and an article for Reference Services Quarterly. She also co-authored Salaries of Academic Librarians in the United States a study published in Advances in Library Administration and Organization. Angelas professional affiliations include memberships in the American Library Association, the ACRL Literatures in English Section, the Theatre Library Association, and the American Society for Theatre Research.
