*Librarians Visiting from the American University of Kyrgyzstan

Indiana University, through the Office of International Programs is hosting a visit by two librarians from the American University of Kyrgyzstan. Natalya Iosipenko and Kalbiu Argynova will be in Bloomington February 3-10, then travel to DePauw University February 11-March 9, before returning to Bloomington March 10-16. IU has received a major grant to establish long-term relations over the next few years with this new university. Many IU faculty are participating in this exchange and there are opportunities for librarians as well.

Both visitors are proficient in English and Russian and have received training in various aspects of library technology, management, and academic librarianship, often through the sponsorship of the Soros Foundation. They plan to develop acquisitions lists for their library during the week in March and have received substantial funds to acquire new materials. They are interested in a broad range of library topics including cataloging systems, circulation policies and staffing, reference service, equipment purchasing, core collection development, internet resources, and staff development.

Many thanks to Julie Bobay, who has graciously agreed to serve as the primary contact for their visit here, and to the librarians and staff who have offered to share their expertise with them during their stay. Julie and Gail McKenzie have copies of their brief vita and schedule if anyone is interested in more details or would like to arrange an appointment with them.
