*Remote Access To IUB Databases
Thanks to the dedication of a talented group of individuals, most of IUB's
web-accessible databases are now available for remote use by authorized
users. This involved a near-Herculean effort to re-negotiate many of our
licenses in order to permit off-site use as well as the technical savvy to
authenticate our users. As a result, IUB now has an annotated alphabetical
list of databases located off the "libfind"
(http://www.indiana.edu/~libfind/) page at
http://www.indiana.edu/~libfind/alphalist.html.
Here you will find beautiful new icons that specify the type of access to
every database in one of four categories:
Information about expanded access to these resources and about our new
WebPage features will be disseminated widely on the IUB campus in the coming
weeks. In the meantime, I would like to thank Lou Malcomb for her
perseverance and leadership of Bloomington's Electronic Resources and
Services Committee (BERSERC) and the invaluable contributions of Diane
Dallis, JoAnne Deeken, Emma Dederick-Colon, Dennis Gillespie, Gail
McKenzie,
Pam Owens, Mary Popp, Charlie Sweet, and Carolyn Walters. This would not
have happened without their team effort! The IUB Libraries' staff join
our many users in thanking you for making our resources more widely
available.
Comments are appreciated and will be conveyed to BERSERC which provided
oversight for this project and whose other members include Julie Bobay,
Marion Frank-Wilson, Frank Quinn, Moira Smith, Perry Willett
Martha L. Brogan
It's time to think about awards! The Indiana University, Bloomington

Professional Administrative, and Student Employee who works for the good
of the Libraries and displays a combination of competence, a positive
attitude, and helpfulness that is notable among his/her peers.
Information, nomination forms and forms to volunteer to be on the
committee
can be found on the Libraries Human Resources web page at:
Please take note of the deadlines and direct any questions concerning the

* resources that many only be used from public workstations in the IUB
Libraries (these are indicated with an icon of a CD-ROM)
* resources that may only be used from IUB Internet Protocol (IP)
addresses
(these are indicated with the abbreviation "IUB")
* resources that can be accessed through the Internet from anywhere with a
valid IUB network ID (these are indicated with a key icon above IUB)
* resources that are available to all Internet users without restriction
(these are indicated with a globe)
An explanation of these categories and their icons is found off the
WebPage
"Alphabetical list of all databases" under "More information about accessing
electronic resources"
(http://www.indiana.edu/~libfind/access.html). We
are still in the process of re-negotiating some licenses and as we gain
permission for remote access, we expect more icons to change from "IUB" to
IUB with the "key."
