LIBRARY EXHIBITS

*IUPUI University Library Exhibit Salutes Schools' Anniversary

New Schools Out of Old: The 30th Anniversary of the Schools of Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, and Science, an exhibit hosted by the IUPUI University Library, is now on display in the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives. The exhibit is open to the public through August 2, 2002.

While the Schools of Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, and Science are thirty years old, they trace their roots back to the earliest classes offered in Indianapolis by Indiana Univeristy and Purdue University. Using original and reproduced materials, the exhibit looks at the schools' roots in the IU Downtown Campus and the Purdue 38th Street Campus and provides an overview of the activities of the schools' leaders, faculty, and students since the founding of the schools in 1972.

New Schools Out of Old: The 30th Anniversary of the Schools of Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, and Science is on display in the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives, located in Room 0133 on the Lower Level of the IUPUI University Library, 755 West Michigan Street. The archives are open to the public 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon on Saturday through the spring semester. The archives will be closed on Saturdays during the summer term. For more information, call the archives at (317) 274-0464 or send e-mail to speccoll@iupui.edu

*ILF Annual Conference

The ILF Annual Conference preconference workshop titled The Psychology of Learning, will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 on Monday, April 29. The workshop will be led by Beth Woodard, Central Information Services Librarian/Associate Professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and current Chair of the ACRL Instruction Section. Beth has worked as a consultant for improving instruction programs and teaching skills for librarians at several universities in the Midwest and is on the faculty of the ACRL Institute for Information Literacy Immersion Program where she teaches a similar workshop for Immersion participants.

This workshop will concentrate on learning theory and the practice of teaching and includes valuable information for all of us who do instruction. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their own learning styles using the Kolb Learning Styles Inventory and through small group work.

For ILF members the cost is only $30.00 and for non-members it is a reasonable $45.00. If you are a non-member, or have not received a conference registration packet, please email me at pboruffj@iupui.edu for registration information. Space is limited so register soon!

*Libraries Diversity Luncheon

The Libraries Diversity Committee cordially invites you to share in a celebration of the great diversity that exists within the IUB Libraries. We are reviving an event previously hosted by the Special Events Committee with a few changes. As in the past this will be a pot-luck luncheon. Staff are asked to bring dishes that reflect their cultural or ethnic heritage, or anything you would like to bring, whether it be chili Monroe County style, Cajun red beans and rice, or Rogan Josh, a hearty Indian red curry with lamb.

The luncheon is scheduled for March 20 from 11:30-1:00 p.m. in the Main Library staff lounge. Below you will find an electronic sign-up sheet asking staff to let us know whether they will bring a main or side dish or a dessert. You can forward this sheet to Betty Davis in Libraries Human Resources at betdavis@indiana.edu or mail to Libraries Human Resources, rm. 201A Main Library.
