LIBRARY EVENTS

*Chancellor Wells Event at IU Bloomington

On Thursday, March 23 the IUB Libraries will host an invitation-only event to commemorate the opening of Chancellor Herman B Wells papers in the IU Archives. Featuring five national speakers, the event will include a public lecture in the lobby of the Main Library beginnng at 4 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner in the Reference Reading Room for invited guests.

The Reference Reading Room will close at 2 p.m. on March 23. Runners will be available to retrieve materials for patrons. The Main Library lobby will be unavilable for use the entire day.

The speakers, listed below, will address topics in higher education. By holding the event in the lobby, we hope to attract passers-by and casual attendees, and hope that you, as IU Libraries employees, will be able to hear some, or all, of their remarks. You are welcome to attend the symposium with your supervisor's approval.

Hugh Hawkins, Professor of History, Amherst College
Robert O'Neil, Director, Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression
Helen Horowitz, Professor of American Studies, Smith College
Roger Geiger, Professor of Education, Pennsylvania State University
John Thelin, Professor, College of Education, University of Kentucky

*Tour of Technical Services at IU Bloomington

Tour of the Technical Services Dept. -- FREE FOOD!!!

The Technical Services Dept and the Faculty/Staff Development Committee invite you to a TOUR OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT. As you know, over the last year, the third floor area was remodelled to allow 85 people in Technical Services to move together on one floor for the first time ever. Our physical arrangement now mirrors the organizational arrangement that went into effect last April 19. We've unpacked most of the boxes and have a workflow established. We'd like to share our new arrangements with all of you. During the tours, you'll meet most of our staff, see where we sit, and (perhaps most important of all) be able to discern what each of us does and where to find us if you need us.

March 23 will be the date for the tours. We want as many of you to come as possible, but in small enough groups so that you can hear what we say. Therefore we're asking you to sign up for one of the 4 tour times.

9:00-10:00 A.M.
10:00-11:00 A.M.
2:00-3:00 P.M.
3:00-4:00 P.M.

Sign up is by contacting Emma Dederick-Colon (edederic@indiana.edu or 5-2970), Chair Faculty/Staff Development Committee OR Ed Monroe (edmonroe@indiana.edu or 5-1666), Technical Services Office Services Assistant. At the time of your tour, meet in the hallway outside Conference Rm. C and a tour guide will start you on your way.

If March 23 is a really horrible choice for you, please contact either Emma or Ed. If we have sufficient demand we'll add a tour on another day.
