6. IU Copyright Management Center At IUPUI

The IU Copyright Management Center on the Campus of IUPUI has a New Look!

The IU Copyright Management Center (CMC) on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) invites you to visit their NEW Web site: http://www.iupui.edu/~copyinfo/.

The new site has a fresh design and has been reorganized for better access and usability of the information provided by the Copyright Management Center.

This Web site provides access to a wide variety of resources about copyright in general and its importance to higher education, including a variety of other pages dealing with the subject of copyright. You can learn more about the Copyright Management Center and what the CMC can do for you, about copyright policies and standards, and about copyright interpretations as applied to particular situations that a professor, librarian, or student may encounter. Topics of particular interest include fair use and distance learning.

7. Instruction Workshop

REMINDER: Please vote on Instruction workshop

The deadline to vote on the LAMA Institute "Managing Educational Services: Teaching and Learning in Libraries" is March 30th. To recap:

The BIUE section of ILF and IALA are considering the cosponsorship of this LAMA Institute. We are gathering information about whether or not there is enough interest to go forward with planning. So far, we've received about 32 positive responses.

Please answer the following questions and return to Nancy Colborn (ncolborn@iusb.edu) by March 30, 1999.

1) Would you be interested in attending such a workshop?

2) Would $100 per person be an affordable registration price?

3) Would August be a good month to attend?

4) Would September be a good month to attend?

5) Since INCOLSA is also planning to sponsor a LAMA Institute (Libraries in the Digital Age on September 23, 1999), would that conflict with your attendance at this workshop?

6) Do you have suggestions for an optimal location for this event?

7) Any additional comments:

More information will be posted as it is available.

8. Program On Informatics

FROM THE CONTINUING EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Continuing Education Committee's upcoming program on informatics features three speakers who are really "in the know" and willing to share the latest news. Mike Dunn, Director of Informatics at IU, will discuss the new School of Informatics (its creation, purpose, curriculum, etc.). In his words, he "will convey the message that information is the proper subject for art, science, and its human dimensions." Rob Kling, Director of SLIS's Center for Social Informatics, will speak specifically about social informatics. Gary Wiggins of the Chemistry Library will talk about his work with chemical informatics. You can check out his website at http://www.indiana.edu/~cheminfo/informatics/cinform_whatis.html for a short piece he wrote on the topic.
Please plan to join us on Monday, April 5 for an inside look at this new specialty with important implications for our field. Our program will run from 1:30 to 3 in Room 174, Main Library.
