*Effective March 30, Daniel Logan resigned from his position as Imaging Technician with the Digital Library Program at Bloomington.
*Please congratulate Celestina Wroth as the newly appointed Librarian for History, Religious Studies and History & Philosophy of Science at IU Bloomington. Last year Celestina did an outstanding job in fulfilling this position in an "Acting" capacity--eventually leading to her successful appointment to the tenure-track position. Celestina received a Master of Library Science and a Master of Arts in History from Indiana University in 1996 with a concentration on medieval Europe. Throughout high school and college she worked in the rare book trade. While in graduate school, she gained experience at several libraries on campus, including the Lilly Library. Celestina joined the Reference Department in 1994 and received a visiting librarian appointment in 1998. She is proficient in Spanish and has reading knowledge of Latin, German, French and Italian in addition to bibliographic knowledge of Portuguese and Dutch. I would like to thank the Search and Screen Committee, chaired by Marty Joachim, for bringing this search to a timely and happy conclusion.
Martha Brogan, Associate Dean and Director of Collection Development
*Glenda Armstrong, IUPUI University Library, received a Certificate of Appreciation from the IUPUI Staff Council in recognition of her "outstanding contribution and commitment to Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis." Glenda worked for the University Library first from 1968-1972, and then she returned in September of 1975, for a total of 28 years of service.
*Marilyn Irwin, Director of the Center for Disability Information and Referral at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at IU Bloomington, has been invited to serve as chair of the Standards Review Committee of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies, a division of the American Library Association. Marilyn's term runs from July 2000 through June 2002. Among the standards to be reviewed during her term is Standards and Guidelines for Client Library Services in Residential Mental Health Facilities, 1987. Marilyn chaired a subcommittee of the Standards Review Committee that recently completed Guidelines for Library Services for People with Mental Retardation, 1999.
Thanks to John Anderies and David Lasocki of IU Bloomington
for giving a
demonstration of Variations and a tour of the Music Library to Dr. Eugene
Garfield, founder of ISI and inventor of the Science Citation Index,
during his visit to the Bloomington campus last month. I very much
appreciated their willingness to accommodate this request on short
notice.

Kris gave a presentation about the IU Digital Library Program on the afternoon of March 31. IU is one of 21 members of the DLF. It was founded in 1995 to establish the conditions for creating, maintaining, expanding, and preserving a distributed collection of digital materials accessible to scholars, students, and a wider public. The Federation is a leadership organization operating under the umbrella of the Council on Library and Information Resources. It is composed of participants who manage and operate digital libraries.
