In the journalism category, The Washington Post received three prizes, and The Wall Street Journal received two. These daily publications are part of the over 4,500 periodical subscriptions that make up the University Library collection.

Dower, Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II; History, David M. Kennedy, Freedom from Fear: The American People in Depression and War, 1929-45; Poetry, C. K. Williams, Repair.

*IUPUI University Library Hosts Herron Student Sculptures

The IUPUI University Library is pleased to announce the installation of an art exhibition entitled, Cardboard Sculpture Project, which will be located in the Level One Lobby through the end of May. The art was created by first-year students of the 3-Dimensional Design Class, of the Herron School of Art, IUPUI, with instruction provided by faculty member Greg Hull.

The sculpture project allows students to understand the concepts of plaar forms and modular design through the creation of three-dimentional volumes. These works were created totally out of cardboard, and they were recently on display in the Indianapolis ArtsGarden.

For further information on the student installation, please call Norman Brandenstein, University Library External Relations at (317) 278-0232 or e-mail at: nbranden@iupui.edu.

*Announcing Recipients of InULA Grants

The Indiana University Librarians Association (InULA) is pleased to announce recent recipients of InULA grants:

Taemin Park, IUB, was awarded a Research Incentive Fund grant for her project to compile name authority records for Korean literary authors, to be used by catalogers nationwide.

Feng Shan, IUSB, was awarded a Professional Development grant to organize a program at the Shurz Library in South Bend featuring a panel on "International Librarianship."

Perry Willett, IUB, was awarded a Research Incentive Fund grant to enable him to communicate with users of his "Victorian Women Writers" database to learn more about their searching methods.

Congratulations to all InULA grant recipients!

*IU System-wide Family of Databases

With Bloomington Chancellor, Ken Gros Louis' and IUPUI Executive Vice Chancellor, William Plater's endorsement, Dean Thorin has appointed a task force to develop a proposal for President Brand that would provide system-wide access to a family of common databases. We expect to have a preliminary report ready for discussion at the May 12th meeting of the Council of Head Librarians (CHL), and a final proposal drafted by June lst.

The "IU-Link" Task Force, which is composed of the following members--Martha Brogan (IUB), Chair; David Lewis (IUPUI), Diane Bever (IUK and regional campus libraries rep), Julie McGowan (RLML), Linda Fariss (IUB-Law), Phyllis Davidson (IUB and UITS liaison), Lou Malcomb (IUB) and Gail Mckenzie (IUB and staff to the committee)--met for first time April 5th and meet again Friday, April 21st. Prior to first our meeting we created a template for gathering information about current electronic resource holdings on each campus and we are now in the process of analyzing all of this data.

The agenda and minutes from our first meeting were distributed to all CHL directors and to a system-wide distribution list of e-resource representatives in each library. If you would like to read these materials, please contact your director or a member of the task force.

"IU-Link" is our working title for this project. Other suggestions we've received include:
* IU Knowledge Net
* IU Internet Library
* IU E-Library
* IU-Click
* Hermes

Contact a Task Force member with your creative suggestions about how we should identify this effort!
