2. IUB Strategic Planning Forums On Key Issues

You are invited to participate in the second series of forums sponsored by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. The goal of these sessions is to get your input on the key strategic issue statements drafted by the steering committee. Based on issues suggested at the first series of staff forums on March 24-25 and the LMT retreat on March 29, we have identified seven key strategic issues we would like to address in the next two years.

This will be the second of four opportunities to provide input during the planning process. Later forums, not yet scheduled, will cover two other draft documents: the strategic plan and implementation plans.

Forums open to all staff will take place twice in the third floor staff lounge in the Main Library. In addition, we have scheduled four peer forums for specific groups that will take place in the ground floor conference room (043). Choose the session(s) most convenient for you. No registration is required. The forums will be held:

OPEN FORUMS
Monday, April 26, 1:30-3:00 p.m. - all staff
Tuesday, April 27, 9:00-10:30 a.m. - all staff

PEER FORUMS
Wednesday, April 28, noon-1:00 p.m. - BLFC members only (bring your lunch)
Thursday, April 29, 9:00-10:00 a.m. - support staff only
Thursday, April 29, 1:00-2:00 p.m. - PAs only
Friday, April 30, 9:00-10:00 a.m. - librarians only

You will receive a draft of the key strategic issue statements during the week of April 19. To prepare for the forums, please read it carefully and make notes on any questions, comments, or suggestions you have. Remember to bring this document to the forum.

On behalf of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, I want to thank you in advance for your thoughtful participation. We look forward to our conversations at the forum sessions.

-- Steven Sowell, Co-Chair, Strategic Planning Steering Committee

4. Preservation Committee

The IUL Preservation Committee met on April 15. The group, chaired by Emily Okada, agreed that its top priority will be to review and respond to the "Preservation Program Review" prepared by consultant Paul Conway. The report is available on Tiamat/main/general/collection_managers_look_in_here!!!!/preservation. In order to make access easier, it is now also available on the Preservation Department's website at http://www.indiana.edu/~libpres/conway.html. Paper copies may also be available from Mary Hellmann (hellmann@exchange.indiana.edu) in Library Administration.

The Committee will also work on updating the Disaster Plan to reflect changes in administrative positions and functions. To see the Committee's roster and mission, please click on Preservation Committee from the Department's home page (http://www.indiana.edu/~libpres/).

5. IUPUI University Library/Xerox Partnerhip

IUPUI University Library/XEROX Partnership
Provides Global Recognition

In recognition of a unique partnership with The Document Company XEROX, IUPUI University Library has received a significant profile in the XEROX 1998 Annual Report. Reflecting a global theme of "Sharing Knowledge," the report recognizes the use of Xerox Digital Curriculum by IUPUI students for access of reading assignments and handing in homework via the Internet.

Each semester, student workers convert approximately 15,000 pages of material for 300 courses into digital files using the Xerox DocuImage 620s scanner. Xerox Docushare web-based document management software delivers the digital documents to the IUPUI University Library website. With Docushare, students can post homework assignments to the site.
