*Effective April 21, Edward Monroe resigned from his position as Office Services Assistant with the Acquisitions Division of the Technical Services Department in the Main Library at Bloomington.

*RIF Application Deadline

The next deadline for application for a Research Incentive Fund (RIF) grant is May 31, 2000. For more information on the guidelines or to apply, visit the INULA website at: http://www.indiana.edu/~inula/rifguide.html.

*Search And Screen Committee Appointed

The search and screen committee for Public Services Librarian with the Lilly Library has been appointed. The members are: Becky Cape, Lilly Library; Yolanda Cooper-Birdine, ex officio, Libraries Human Resources; Garry Harrison, Preservation; Catherine Johnson, Lilly Library; Connie Mayer, Cook Music Library; Saundra Taylor (Chair), Lilly Library; Celestina Wroth, Subject and Area Librarians Council.

*IUPUI University Library Donors Recognized

As part of the Indiana University Foundation - Indianapolis annual "Spirit of Philanthropy" recognition luncheon, two of the significant gifts of 1999 IUPUI University Library (UL) donors were honored on April 27 at the Indianapolis Westin Hotel. J. Warren and Lois McClure provided a $500,000 matching gift for the expansion of the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library. Robert and Polly Payton provided a $250,000 match to the McClure family gift, and they were recognized by both UL and the IU Center on Philanthropy. Other past UL donors and members of the UL Advisory Committee joined members of the UL Senior Management and External Relations Team at the event to celebrate these significant contributions. The event planning committee was chaired this year by Ken Ayers, the UL Development Officer.

*Indiana Research Grant

The Special Collections of the Ruth Lilly Medical Library has been awarded an Indiana Research Grant in support of the project, "Indiana Bones: 19th Century Indiana Physicians Database". Nancy Eckerman is the Project Director and Primary Researcher.

LIBRARY AWARDS

*IUPUI University Library Staff Recognition

On Friday, April 28th, Fran Huehls, of the University Library Special Collections & Archives Team, was awarded the Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., M.D., Experience Excellence Recognition Award at IUPUI Chancellor Gerald Bepko's Honors Convocation. The Irwin Award, named in honor of the retired IUPUI Chancellor, was established in 1983 to honor individuals for outstanding performance and "as someone who goes beyond the call of duty to make IUPUI a very special place." Fran began her work with the University Library in 1994 and currently provides service excellence as a Visiting Assistant Librarian in the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library.
