*IUPUI University Library Receives National Recognition

The IUPUI University Library announced that its electronic reserves system (Errol) was recently named one of the Computerworld Smithsonian Laureates for the year 2000. Having been nominated by Xerox Corporation, documentation on this collaborative project between the IUPUI University Library, the Indiana University Copyright Management Center and Xerox Business Services was formally accepted into the Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection, along with those representing other institutions from 38 states and 21 countries.

Since 1994, IUPUI University Library has partnered with Xerox Business Services and the Indiana University Copyright Management Center to create Errol, a streamlined electronic faculty reserve system that has established a standard for providing more academic course reserve materials electronically than any other site in the nation.

The Computerworld Smithsonian Awards Program was established in 1989 to recognize the ways in which information technology is being used to improve society, to enrich the National Museum of American History's growing collection on the history of information technology, and to contribute significantly to the museum's on-going efforts to chronicle the Information Age.

Dan Morrow, Executive Director of the Smithsonian Institution presented Steven Schmidt, IUPUI University Library Access Team Leader and Errol Project Director and John Cooper, IUPUI University Library Reserves Team Leader, with the laureates' medal, stating, "On behalf of the Smithsonian Institution, the American people, and generations throughout the world for whom we hold these historic materials in trust, it is my honor and duty to bestow this medallion in commemoration of the outstanding quality of your work, and to thank you for your contribution to the history of information technology."
