3. Directory Of Librarian's Research Activities

IULFC Research Committee wishes to update the Directory of Librarian*s Research Activities (http://www.indiana.edu/~iulfcrc/) In 1997, the Indiana University Library Faculty Council (IULFC) charged the Research Committee with developing an online Directory of Librarians' Research Activities with a view to fostering recognition of librarians' research activities and encouraging information sharing and collaboration.

For those Librarians who previously submitted information for the directory, the committee requests that you send information about any additional research or publications completed since the directory was orginally created in 1997-1998. Also, please send us information about current projects.

For Librarians who did not originally submit information, please consider doing so. We wish to include research activities completed during the five most recent years as well as current research projects and research interest. Send us information about articles, books, book chapters, book reviews, bibliographies, and grants authored by you, presentations given, as well as items edited by you. For any of these items, please include a citation and brief annotation of the work. For current research projects and research interest, send a description. Also include information needed to contact you such as work address, phone numbers and email address.

Send all information to Marty Rosen at crosen@indiana.edu. Please send information in ASCII text format or marked up in html. Please send your information by June 15.

5. Master Calendar

DON'T FORGET TO USE THE MASTER CALENDAR!

There is a master calendar in Libraries Human Resources where we list most meetings and training sessions that have been widely announced. Suzann Easter (sleaster@indiana.edu) maintains this calendar, and you can let her know if you want something listed. If you're scheduling a meeting or event and want to avoid conflicts, consulting the master calendar may help. You can also find this calendar on our web page at: http://www.indiana.edu/~libpers/master.html

Whatever the Name or Label, Distance Learning is a Copyright Conundrum!

You Are Invited to a Presentation and Discussion of Copyright Law for Distance Learning

When: Tuesday, May 11, 1999, 1:30 - 3:30 PM

Where: IUPUI University Library Auditorium
(For directions and map, see http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/libinfo/directions.html)

A Public Presentation by Copyright Management Center
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis
http://www.iupui.edu/~copyinfo

Distance learning often involves the digitizing, duplication, transmission, and downloading of copyright protected materials. Current copyright law allows limited uses of materials in distance learning. The United States Copyright Office is currently preparing a report to Congress with possible recommendations for revision of that law.

The report is due on April 28, 1999. This session on Tuesday, May 11 will be an opportunity to participate in a discussion led by Prof. Kenneth Crews about the report and its implications for distance education at IUPUI, Indiana University, and throughout the country.

For a summary and explanation of the current law, prepared by Prof. Kenneth Crews, see
http://www.ind.net/distance_ed/ipse/fdhandbook/copyrt.html.

For details about the upcoming study from the Copyright Office, see
http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/disted/.

Seating at this program is limited. We charge no admission fee, but please make a reservation by contacting the Copyright Management Center at (317) 274-4400 or send us a message at copyinfo@iupui.edu. In your reply, please indicate that you plan to attend the copyright program on May 11 and give us your name and institutional affiliation. While this program is specifically for the IUPUI and IU communities, members of other academic communities are especially welcome.
