*Herbert S. and Virginia White Professional Development Award 2003
The 2002-2003 White Award Committee is pleased to announce that Christopher Harter, Reference Associate at Lilly Library, Indiana University Libraries, Bloomington, has been selected as the recipient of the Herbert S. and Virginia White Professional Development Award given by Indiana University Libraries. This award was established in 1995 to support the process of individually motivated professional growth. It is the ninth year that the award has been given.
Mr. Harter's project is to conduct bibliographical research of American literary magazines (or "little magazines") in the 1960s and 1970s. It was a particular era of literary magazine publishing "because the decreased costs of production resulted in tremendous increase in the number of such magazines." Mr. Harter will use the White Award of $2,500 to visit a number of collections including the Sukov Little Magazine Collection at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Poetry/Rare Books Collection at Sunny-Buffalo, the Fales Library at New York University. Mr. Harter's research will result in a descriptive bibliography of significant titles.
The committee wishes to thank all those who applied for this award.

*New IUB Libraries INCOLSA Representative
In April, 2003 Mechael Charbonneau was appointed the IUB Libraries' representative to INCOLSA.

The mission of INCOLSA is to consolidate the strengths of its diverse membership (including school corporations, public libraries, special libraries, and college and university libraries) through cooperative action to provide superior service to member libraries, residents of Indiana on behalf of libraries, and other entities as directed by the Board.
As the IUB Libraries' representative, Mechael will attend regional and statewide INCOLSA meetings. She will voice our concerns at meetings and will also communicate information to IUB librarians about discussions held at the INCOLSA meetings.
Thank you, Mechael, for your expanding service role to the IU Libraries and state-wide concerns.

*Retirement & Recognition thank you, IUB
Please join me in giving sincere thanks to all our library colleagues who contributed so much time and effort to make the Retirement & Recognition Reception on May 9 such a success. And please give special thanks to Shawny Taysom and Carole Williams for coordinating the whole event. Without them and all the volunteers who helped on the day of the reception, it would not have been possible.
I would also like to thank Ann Bristow and the Reference Department staff for making arrangements to help patrons who may have needed to use reference materials during the reception and the Building Services crew for setting up the room for us.
For the many of us who were there, it was a great party. The flowers and other decorations were lovely; the food, cake, and punch were good and plentiful; and everything was well organized. We had a record number of retired staff and emeritus librarians in attendance.
Activities like this bring staff together from libraries all across the campus, making us realize we are part of the same organization. I was told by several retirees that they are already looking forward to next year's party!
