*Endowment Fund:

An anonymous donor has established an endowment fund to support the Government Publications Department. The endowment, which will result from a future bequest, will generate income to increase access to the historical and current information resources produced by government agencies.

Funds may be used to acquire, catalog or preserve materials, hire hourly staff, create publications and electronic products, purchase printers or furniture, and support staff travel and program development. An advisory committee that includes the collection manager of Government Information will recommend how the funds are used.

Endowments are particularly valuable because they generate yearly income and provide a stable, secure source of funds. Individuals interested in making contributions to this endowment fund may call Beverly Byl (IU Bloomington) at (812) 855-4182.

*Wylie House Letters and Grant:

"Affectionately Yours: The Andrew Wylie Family Letters, vol. 2 1860-1918" is now in print. Edited by Elaine Herold and Bonnie Williams, this volume of 106 letters tells the life stories of several of Andrew and Margaret Wylie's children, giving the reader new insight into the everyday experience of life in the second half of the 19th century. An introduction by IU History Professor Steven Stowe adds perspective to the volume, and an index, glossary, genealogical charts, and other aids make it easy for the reader to use. Copies are available from Wylie House for $15 each. (We also have copies of volume one, same price.)

Wylie House has been awarded an Indiana Heritage Research Grant to compile a bibliography of biographical materials relating to IU's first president, Andrew Wylie. In spite of his significance for state and local history, no full-scale study of Wylie's life has ever been written. This project is a first step in that direction. The bibiography will also be a useful research tool for students of early 19th-century Indiana history, and it will be of great immediate value to us here at the museum in refining the interpretation of his home and sharing the story of his life and times with the public.

Wylie House Museum (IU Bloomington) is located at 307 E. 2nd Street and is open for guided tours Tues-Sat 1-4pm.

Bonnie Williams,
Curator
