*Lisa Browar New Member of SALC
Effective June 1, 2001, Lisa Browar will become the Librarian for English & American Literature, Film Studies, and Philosophy. As a member of SALC, Lisa's office will be located on the 10th floor of the Main Library, E1060. For the past year, Lisa has served as the Film Studies bibliographer along with additional responsibilities in University Archives and writing descriptive essays for a new collections' overview brochure. Lisa's B.A. in English and American literature is from Indiana University while her M.A. is from the University of Kansas. She also received her M.L.S. from Indiana University and is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Arts degree in the history of philanthropy at IU's Center on Philanthropy in Indianapolis. She will receive her certification as a fundraising manager in early June. She is the editor of RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage, published by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) and serves on two ACRL Rare Books & Manuscripts Section (RBMS) committees. Prior to coming to Indiana University in 1996, Lisa held positions at the New York Public Library, Vassar, and Yale. Please join me in welcoming Lisa to her new responsibilities. We are happy to have a person of her abilities and academic background to fill this important position.
*Cook Music Library announces Carla Williams as new Head of User Services
The Cook Music Library is pleased to announce that Carla Williams has been appointed Head of User Services, as of May 14, 2001. She has been the Circulation Supervisor and Reserves Coordinator here since November, 2000.
Carla came to Indiana University School of Music in 1994 as adoctoral candidate in Early Keyboard Performance. She had already earned degrees in both Music History and Literature (B.A.), and Piano Pedagogy and Performance Practice (M.Mus.) from the University of Idaho, where she also served as Instructor of class piano and continuing education. In Bloomington she has performed widely as a soloist or accompanist, on harpsichord, piano, and organ, including concerts at Wylie House, where she is also a docent.

*IUPUI University Library Recipient of IU Faculty Recognition
The Indiana University Trustees recently announced their annual recognition of faculty academic contributions, and Maymanat Montaser Jafari, Librarian, University Library was the recipient of a 2000 Trustees Teaching Award. This recognition represents one of the few provided to honor the instructional contribution made by librarians as librarians.
In providing his nomination, David Lewis, Dean of the IUPUI University Library stated, "Ms. Jafari has been actively engaged in instructional activities both in campus learning communities and at more advanced levels. She has been the sole librarian working with the Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology, Indianapolis, providing creative integration of library skills and information literacy components throughout the school's curriculum."
Having joined the University Library staff in 1991, May has also been involved in the areas of Reference and Research and was recently appointed as the Science, Engineering and Technology, and Nursing Team Leader within the Library staff organization.
*B.J. Irvine Presents Paper at Bryn Mawr College
B. J. Irvine was invited to presented a paper for the jointly sponsored New York and Delaware Valley Regional Meeting, Art Libraries Society of North America Delaware Valley/NY Chapters. Hosted by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Bryn Mawr College, the program title was "How Soon is Now? Art Information Professionals in the 21st Century", May 14.
