*IUPUI University Library Exhibits National Historic Collection

The Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives of the IUPUI University Library is currently presenting a new exhibit entitled, The FFA: 72 Years of Agricultural Education. The exhibit uses archival photographs, programs, and publications to illustrate the scope of the history of FFA's national programs.

The National FFA Organization serves junior high and high school students with a focus of "Premier Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success through Agricultural Education." The FFA was formed in 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, as an organization for boys living in rural, farming communities. Throughout its history, the FFA has evolved to meet the changing needs of students and of an industry that is no longer entirely based on the farm. The mission of the FFA has, however, remained the same. Through educational training and hands-on experience, the FFA seeks to reinforce character and develop leadership skills in its members.

On June 1, 1998, the new national headquarters of the FFA in Indianapolis, Indiana was opened. This facility currently houses the National FFA Organization, National FFA Alumni and the National FFA Foundation. As a result of the transition to Indianapolis, the organization's historic materials were sent to be housed in the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives.

The IUPUI University Library exhibit is on display through August in the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives, located on the Lower Level, in UL 0133. General hours are 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8:00 a.m.- Noon on Saturday.
