DERRIERE LE MIROIR
Fine Arts Library Exhibition
June 2 - July 14, 2000
Published from December 1946 to December 1982, DERRIERE LE MIROIR was a French publication featuring original lithographs by well-known artists. French draughtsman, designer, and dealer Aime Maeght was responsible for the publication, and each issue of the magazine doubled as a catalogue accompanying exhibits at his gallery, the Galerie Maeght.
Fourteen issues of this "sumptuous large-format album" are now on display at the Fine Arts Library at IU-Bloomington. Lithographs by Alexander Calder, Joan Miro, and Henri Matisse are among those displayed. The Fine Arts Library's hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. Access to the exhibit is also possible during any hour the IU Art Museum is open.
*IUPUI University Library and Faxon Sign Industry's First Licensing Service Agreement
Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library and Faxon, RoweCom Academic & Medical Services recently signed an historic agreement, granting Faxon the right to act in the library's behalf when negotiating electronic journal licenses. As part of the agreement, the IUPUI University Library has customized the standard academic single site license created by the five major subscription agencies. Faxon will send the pre-signed license to the publisher, complete the registration and licensing process, invoice the library, and perform all other tasks associated with the acquisitions of electronic journals.
"The agreement is a natural extension of the role Faxon has played in the print environment," said David Lewis, Deputy University Librarian, IUPUI. "What makes this signing so significant is the fact that we can now achieve the same fundamental efficiencies in the acquisition of electronic journals that we have enjoyed all along with traditional print subscriptions."
"Faxon has always served libraries by providing outsourced ordering and claiming of serials," said David Fritsch, Director, Library Strategic Initiatives for Faxon, RoweCom Academic and Medical Services. "Faxon's licensing service essentially follows our traditional business model; however, this service breaks new ground, establishing Faxon as the first agent to find a solution to the greatly increased workloads generated by the tasks associated with the licensing process."
Since the inception of electronic journals, and until recently, libraries have been required to negotiate directly with publishers on individual license agreements. The purpose of the IUPUI/Faxon agreement is threefold: The agreement empowers Faxon to act in the IUPUI University Library's behalf; assures IUPUI of Faxon's responsibility to initiate and negotiate the licensing of electronic journals; and notifies the publisher of Faxon's legal right to negotiate.
Backed by the strength of an international leader, Faxon, RoweCom Academic and Medical Services, continues to provide print and e-journal services that simplify the access and management of information, as well as tools for budgeting, distance-learning, and more. Faxon's web-based services, Subscription Depot and License Depot, are offered along with Information Quest (IQ) to provide clients with web-based control of serials acquisitions; immediate access to licensing and registration terms and conditions; and sophisticated desktop delivery of full-image content.
