*Baseball History Collection Featured at IUPUI University Library
A sampling of the National Art Museum of Sport collection of baseball
cartoons by Willard Mullin, noted artist for the New York World Telegram
from 1934 to 1966 are featured for the month of June in an IUPUI
University Library, Level One Lobby display.
The large-scale inllustrations include a representation of the 1937 World
Series win by the New York Yankees over the New York Giants, with Joe
DiMaggio at bat. There are also cartoons of Gabby Hartnett, manager of
the Chicago Cubs, who won the 1938 National League pennant, and the 1939
World Series "fireworks," when the Cincinnatti Reds fell to the Yanks.
The baseball cartoons will be joined by a display of promotions for IUPUI
neighbor, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, host
to the "Iggaipaa: Celebrating Inuit Art, 1948-1970" exhibition, opening
June 9, and the annual Indian Market event, June 23 & 24.
