It is summer and Walden is coming! This year the Walden University session will be from July 8 - July 28. Plans are being made for 400 doctoral students and 50 faculty to enjoy the campus and library facilities during that period. Since some groups will leave before the last week, numbers will be smaller toward the end of the month. I know that library staff is prepared to give the excellent and welcoming service that makes the IUB Libraries popular and useful to these summer scholars. Contact Rita Barsun or Jay Wilkerson in the WU Library Liaison Office with any questions you may have about this year's visit.

I am pleased to announce that the IUB Technical Services staff have completed the conversion of the manual card catalogs for the Main and campus libraries on the Bloomington campus to online records in IUCAT. June 30, 2001 marks the official completion date of a seven-year-long effort to convert more than 800,000 manually cataloged monographic records to online records.
Even though June 30 is the official completion date, Tim Larson will continue his assignment as Retrospective Conversion Project Manager until the end of August, 2001 in order to provide important clean up and follow up work related to retrocon. During this time, several cataloging staff will also be finishing the last small pockets of non-Roman retrocon.
Over the past three months catalogers joined efforts with Tim and a large group of student assistants to convert the last 55,000 Roman alphabet cards, most of which were from shelf list series cards, and a variety of non-Roman alphabet cards. These cards represent some of the most difficult items to convert. Our staff once again demonstrated their exceptional expertise and dedication by completing the last stage of this project in record time and with remarkable precision, given the nature of the task.
By joining efforts to complete retrocon, catalogers temporarily reduced the amount of time they spent on cataloging newly received materials. Now that the project is finished, staff of the Cataloging Division are resuming their full efforts to catalog new materials.
While backlogs of uncataloged materials have accumulated, staff will be working through these materials as well as those newly received. If library users require immediate access to any of uncataloged items, please feel free to submit a rush cataloging request form. Rush cataloging is usually supplied within 24 hours.
I know that you join me in extending a special thank you and congratulations to the Technical Services Division for their excellent work and outstanding accomplishment in completing retrospective conversion.
