*Search and Screen Committee Appointed at IU Bloomington

A search and screen committee has been appointed for the position of Assistant to the Branch Head with the Fine Arts Library (PA09) at IU Bloomington Libraries. The members are: Eileen Fry, chair, Fine Arts Slide Library; Yolanda Cooper-Birdine, ex officio, Libraries Human Resources; Susie Trisler, Customer & Access Services; Jeanne Myers, Fine Arts Library; and Mary Buechley, Fine Arts Library.

LIBRARY EVENTS

*The Life and Career of Wendell Willkie

On Monday, August 28, at 8:00 p.m., "We Want Willkie!" will air on WTIU, channel 30, as part of the summer public television fund drive. The program explores the life and career of Wendell Willkie, who ran for president against Franklin Roosevelt in 1940, then later served as Roosevelt's representative on a world tour. Willkie was a native of Elwood, Indiana, and a graduate of Indiana University. The program was co-produced by Kristine Brancolini and Gino Brancolini, and makes extensive use of archival materials from the Willkie archive at the Lilly Library at IU Bloomington.

*Preventive Conservation Workshop

The Society of Indiana Archivists and the Indiana Historical Society are co-hosting a workshop:

Preventive Conservation for Library and Archival Materials

Thursday, 31 August 2000
10am to 4pm
Indiana Institute on Disability and Community "J" Conference Room
2853 East Tenth Street
(Located Northeast of Smith Research Center, 10th and the Bypass)
Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana

The workshop will examine causes of deterioration including light, temperature and relative humidity insects,handling, storage, display and disasters. Participants will learn basic skills and resources to address these problems in our collections.

The workshop presenter will be Jim Canary, Conservator for the Lilly Library, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

Registration is $10.00, payable at the door. Attending participants will fend for themselves for lunch. There is a picnic area adjacent to the conference room. In addition, numerous restaurants are within short driving distance. Parking permits for the day cost $2.00.
