LIBRARY NEWS

*16th, Annual HPER Library Auction, IUB

The 16th Annual HPER Library Auction will take place this Fall on Friday, Oct. 25th, in the IUB HPER Building, Room 125. Preview time will be from 11:30am until noon, after which our professional auctioneer, Jerry Bastin, will start the bidding wars. Please mark your calendars now, and watch for further details about items to be auctioned in future issues of IUL News.

In addition, now is the time to start thinking about what you would like to donate to the Auction. Baked goods, dinners, "gently used" furniture and sporting goods, videos, books, and plants are examples of items donated in past auctions. If you have never donated to the HPER Library Auction, this is a good time to start! It's a great collaboration between the School of HPER and the IU Libraries.

Please join us for food (lunch will be served), fun, and fund-raising!

*Improvements to the U.S. Steel Gary Works Online Photograph Collection

The Digital Library Program is making improvements to the U.S. Steel Gary Works Photograph Collection http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/collections/steel, which has been online since February 2002. The home page for the site has received over 35,000 visits since its launch, making it one of our more popular online collections. We are happy to announce that the full text of selected journal articles and book chapters relating to the collection is now available. We have also added an essay written by Steve McShane, ardchivist at the Calumet Regional Arichives at IU-Northwest, putting the collection in a historical context. You can see this new content at http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/collections/steel context/articles.html

THANK YOU

*Reception Success

Kudos to Co-chairs, Lou Malcomb and Pat Steele, and their industrious committee--Anne Haynes, Elizabeth Hanson, Monique Threatt and Celestina Wroth--who planned a wonderful reception for new graduate students and faculty held in the Reference Room of the Main Library on August 29th. An estimated 350 people attended, obtained CDs of our bibliographic management software (thanks to Mary Popp), enjoyed the delectable food and lovely guitar music. Thanks also to Shawny Taysom and Carole Williams for their invaluable help with the arrangements and to Ann Bristow for making the space even more attractive with flowers.
