STAFF NEWS:

*Effective August 30, Gordana Green accepted the Office Services Assistant position in Library Administration at IU Bloomington. Gordana has been an hourly employee in Library Administration since November of 1998.

*Effective August 27, Heiko Muehr accepted the Branch Assistant position in the Education Library at IU Bloomington. Heiko has worked in the Geography and Map Library as a student employee since 1990.

*Effective August 24 Robert Montgomery resigned from his position as Acquisitions Coordinator in the Technical Services Department at IU Bloomington.

*Taemin K. Park, Technical Services Department at Indiana University Libraries, Bloomington presented a paper entitled "The Maze of Electronic Journals in Digital Libraries" at the 11th International Conference on New Information Technology in Taipei, Taiwan, Aug. 18-21.

*Search Committee Appointed

The Search and Screen Committee for the position of Visiting Assistant Librarian and Project Manager, Russian Periodical Index Digital Project at IU Bloomington has been appointed. The committee members are: Kris Brancolini (Chair), Media/Reserve Services and Digital Library Program; Yolanda Cooper-Birdine (ex officio), Libraries Human Resources; Murlin Croucher, SALC; John Walsh, LETRS; and Perry Willett, SALC.

Assistant Librarian/Head of Electronic Services/Reference Librarian

Electronic Services/Reference Librarian/Assistant Librarian. The Schurz Library at Indiana University South Bend seeks an energetic, motivated, and creative professional with a strong service orientation to lead its electronic services program. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating the use of current and emerging electronic technologies for the delivery of reference services; maintaining and enhancing the library's Web site; and working with vendors and consortia in selecting new electronic resources. Additional responsibilities include working regularly scheduled hours at the reference desk (including evening and weekend rotation) and participation in a highly active instruction program. Required: ALA- MLS; proven skills in database management, online searching, and Web page creation; ability to work as a team leader and team member as well as independently; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to relate effectively to varied clientele. Instructional and academic reference experience strongly preferred. Must be able to meet the responsibilities of a tenure-track appointment. Reports to the Director of Library Services. Twelve-month appointment at the Assistant Librarian rank; preferred starting date, January, 2000. Salary: $32,800- $36,900. *Journal of the Indiana Library Federation

The next issue of Indiana Libraries, the journal of the Indiana Library Federation, will be devoted to intellectual property matters in libraries, such as copyright, trademark, patents and licensing of electronic sources. As Guest Editor, Sara Anne Hook is interested in articles from a variety of types of libraries. If you have an idea for an article, please contact her to discuss your topic. The deadline for submissions is October 1, 1999. Articles typically average 4-8 pages in length when finally printed. A copy of the editorial guidelines is available upon request. Libraries Annual Family Picnic. Lunch will be served from 11:00-1:30 for
those who RSVP. If you plan on joining us for lunch, it is essential that
you RSVP by September 10, 1999 so that we can plan for the appropriate
amount of food.

*Wylie House Museum Event

Visit Wylie House Museum on Saturday, September 18 from 10 am to 4 pm for a celebration of old-time gardening and homelife. The Historic Garden Fair will include guided tours of the 1835 mansion and vegetable garden; displays of heirloom produce; seeds, plants and garden books for sale; a seed-saving workshop; old-fashioned refreshments; activities for kids; and more.
