*Libraries Personnel Directory update, IUB

The Libraries Personnel Directory has moved to http://www.libraries.iub.edu/index.php?pageId=13.

The old directory will not be maintained so please update all links and your bookmarks. Note that some libraries are not listed as departments in the new directory. These include Law, Archives of Traditional Music, Kinsey, the IUPUI campuses and the campuses at Kokomo, Richmond, Gary, New Albany, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Individual staff from these libraries and campuses can be found in the alphabetical listing for staff.

*Indiana University Libraries Electronic Resources Manager Position, IUB

The Indiana University Libraries are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic librarian for the position of IU Libraries Electronic Resources Manager for the Digital Library of Indiana University. This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Digital Library Development who is also the Ruth Lilly University Dean of University Libraries at Indiana University Bloomington. The incumbent will also work in consultation with the Council of Head Librarians, which includes the directors of libraries on the eight IU campuses. The IU Libraries Electronic Resources Manager is responsible for coordinating efforts among the IU campuses (with the exception of medical library resources) to build a substantial body of shared electronic resources accessible system-wide in support of the University’s teaching and research mission and to broaden opportunities for distance and distributed education. *American Library Association Offers Grant for Technology Project

Deadline: December 1, 2003

The American Library Association http://www.ala.org/ invites applications for the SIRSI Award, an annual award of $10,000 designed to encourage and enable continued advancements in quality library services for a project that makes creative or groundbreaking use of technology to deliver exceptional services to its community. The award is funded by the SIRSI Corporation.

The criteria for selection include the potential for impact for the community served by the project; evidence that the project will serve as a model, with potential to be adopted by other libraries; the potential of the project to effect changes lasting beyond the immediate life of the grant; technical soundness; and an appropriate and efficient use of funds to accomplish project goals and objectives.

*Media Services adds DVDs, IUB

Media Services Adds DVDs to the Browsing Collection and Extends its Loan Policy

Media Services is pleased to announce the addition of DVDs to the video browsing collection. They are shelved at the beginning of the collection on the New Acquisitions shelf and before the browsing Series. There are signs posted above the shelves, and the DVDs will be in security cases.

Media Services has also extended its loan policy for both the permanent and DVD/video browsing collections. Effective immediately, DVDs and videos in the permanent collection will circulate for 3 days to Faculty and Instructors only. DVDs/videos in the browsing collection will circulate for 3 days with a 3 item checkout limit, and a $2.00 a day fine for late returns.

*Digital Library Brown Bag Series, IUB

Mark your calendars now! The Digital Library Program and the School of Library and Information Science are planning the Digital Library Brown Bag series, lunch-time presentations and discussions on various topics related to the creation, maintanence, distribution, and preservation of digital libraries. The programs will be held approximately every two weeks during the academic year. We have scheduled the series for the first semester and welcome your input on topics for the second semester.
