*Temporary reassignments in Technical Services at IUB
Jackie Byrd has been appointed Interim Head of the Acquisitions Division, effective mid-October. Jackie is currently head of the Area Studies Cataloging Unit and has been a Slavic cataloger at IU for the last 18 years. Prior to that she worked in the former Automated Processing Department as a subject authority assistant and as an online cataloger and catalog editor.

Informatics in the newly created School of Informatics at Indiana
University. In 1998, he received the American Chemical Society
Division of Chemical Information (CINF)'s highest award, the Herman
Skolnik Award for outstanding contributions in the field of chemical
information.
Program Summary:
The rapid transition from print to electronic forms of communication has
been happening in all areas of science, but it is perhaps most
dramatically evident in the fields of chemistry and molecular biology.
In some respects, developments in the two disciplines have been
parallel, mirroring the electronic revolution in other areas of science.
However, two very different cultures have evolved with regard to key
aspects of the primary and secondary information in chemistry and
molecular biology. This is reflected in the vast amount of free
information in the latter, and the relative paucity of free sources of
information in the former. Now the two subjects are moving even closer
as genomic research evolves to the next plateau, proteomics.
Informatics is forging links between the two areas that have not existed
before.
