*Sarah Cornell accepts position of Serials Control Coordinator, IUB

*Herb McBride accepts position of Enclosure
Specialist, IUB
The Preservation Department is pleased to welcome our newest staff
member, Herb McBride. Herb is taking on the new Enclosure Specialist
position, operating our new Kasemake 503A box making machine. This
machine is the first to be installed in a university library, and one of
only 7 machines in use in libraries worldwide. The box making machine is
a key component of our plans to safely move collections to the ALF over
the next 2 to 3 years and to increase the ability of the preservation
department to deal with the many items in need of treatment in the
Indiana University Libraries.
Herb comes to us from Indiana University's Bureau of Facilities
Programming and Utilization, where he was involved in creating CAD
renderings of numerous Indiana University buildings, including the Main
Library. Herb received his first CAD training in the Custodians to Crafts program
and has since acquired an ASE CAD certification. We are pleased to
welcome an employee with such a strong computer background and knowledge of
Indiana University to our department. We hope you will all extend a warm
welcome to Herb.

*HPER Library 15th Annual Auction
The HPER Library 15th Annual Auction is coming up fast! You still
have time to donate something, whether it be a plate of cookies
or Grandma's rocking chair. Contact Mary Strow at (mstrow) at the HPER
Library if you wish to contribute. Remember, you may receive a tax receipt
for the value of the item if you request it.
We also hope that in addition to making a donation, you will join us
in person at the Auction, held in Room 125 of the HPER Building on
Friday, Oct. 26. At 11:30 a.m., the HPER Support Staff Council will begin
serving a Sloppy Joe lunch for the astronomical price of $2.00, and you may
also preview this year's donations which will be on display around the
room until 12 noon. The bidding will begin at noon, and continue until
1:15 p.m., when we hope all items will be sold! Next week a list of donations,
in the order that they will be auctioned on the 26, will be sent out so
that you can see if there is something you "can't live without." A
professional auctioneer will be running the show this year, and we
will have a special table of low-priced items.
So please join us on the 26...for food, fundraising, and FUN!
