*eBooks Available to IUB Libraries
Nearly 4,500 full-text books are now available online by logging into the IU Bloomington Libraries Web site, making it possible for IUB students, faculty and staff to search for specific references in 300-page books in seconds.
Most of the titles are in the public domain and available to all users, but about 400 electronic books were "purchased" by the IUB Libraries and can be accessed only in the IUB Libraries or remotely by anyone with an IUB IP address. Books in this collection range from Inventing the Internet and Racial Fault Lines to From Mouse to Mermaid, published by Indiana University Press.
For access, go to the Libraries Web site:
http://www.indiana.edu/~libfind/
and look under the heading for online texts.
"This is a first step toward providing access to full-length electronic books from a commercial service. And although the technology is now in an experimental stage, we plan to expand this program in the future, especially for reserve and high circulation materials," says Martha Brogan, associate dean and director of collection development.
Users can search the collection of eBooks by keyword, author, title, or
subject and search the books themselves by keyword. Previewing the text
for 15 minutes doesn't require an account, but "checking out" a book does.
Accounts to use "netLibrary" books can be created by anyone with an IU
Bloomington IP address. Books can be read by one user at a time for two
hours. Complete details and help are available online from netLibrary.

*HPER Library Auction at IU Bloomington
It's back by popular demand! The 14th Annual HPER Library Auction will take place on Friday, October 27, from 11:30am-1pm in the HPER Building, Room 125 (HPER faculty lounge). This is a major fundraising event for the HPER Library, and a collaborative effort between the School of HPER and the IU Libraries. The purpose of this message is to ask for your donations to the Auction. In previous years, such items as baked goodies and gourmet meals, sporting equipment, autographed books, an afternoon of kayaking, 4 hours of dog training, and a massage have been auctioned off. If you have Grandma's "treasures" in your attic and want to give them to a good cause, think about putting them in the Auction. This year we are going to have a special table with $10.00 items, for folks on a limited budget.
To make a donation, please fill out the form below, and return it to: Mary Strow, HPER Library 029, HPER Building, IUB. Be sure to request a tax reporting form, if you wish one. We hope to make this year's Auction bigger and more fun than ever before! Mark your calendars now, and we hope that you will participate!
