Effective October 24, Jeanne Myers resigned from her position as Senior
Circulation Assistant in the Fine Arts Library.
Effective October 29, Rowan Harris accepted the position of Serials Control
Coordinator in Acquisitions at IU-Bloomington. Prior to accepting this
position, Rowan worked as a student employee in the Fine Arts Library. She has
a B.A. in Art History from Indiana University.

The IUPUI University Library has announced the retirement of associate
librarian, Marie Turner Wright, who began her IUPUI professional association
in 1981 as the head of Government Documents and as a reference librarian.
Marie also provided service as acting head of Public Services at the 38th
Street Science and Engineering Library, and most recently served with the
University Library Reference and Research, External Relations and Resource
Development Teams. In addition, she was a children's literature specialist.
Turner Wright received her A.B. in English, with a minor in Folklore, and a
Masters in Library Science, both from Indiana University. She then stepped
into library leadership as branch manager of the Emerson Library with the
Indianapolis Marion County Public Library.
Since beginning her tenure at the IUPUI University Library, Turner Wright
has provided undergraduate instruction for the IUPUI School of Liberal
Arts, English Department, and the IU Kokomo Humanities Division. Most recently,
as a member of the University Library External Relations Team, she provided
site coordination for a series of special programs featuring the American
Library Association national touring exhibitions of The Many Realms of King
Arthur, The Frontier in American Culture, and The Jazz Age in Paris: 1914-1940,
and a LIVE @ Your Library program, A Tribute to Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong:
New Orleans, Chicago, Harlem, the World.
Honors and awards received by Turner Wright include the Herbert S. and Virginia
White Professional Development Award, Indiana University; the Glen W. Irvin,
Jr., M.D. Experience Excellence Recognition Award, IUPUI; and the T-Sun-Ga-Ni
Award of Merit from the Crossroads of America chapter of the Boy Scouts of
America. Her professional associations include the American Library
Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee and Association of College and
Research Libraries, Indiana Library Federation, Freedom to Read Foundation, and
the Writers' Center of Indianapolis Board of Directors.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE HERBERT S. AND VIRGINIA WHITE PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Employees of the IU Libraries systemwide who hold an MLS or equivalent
degree are invited to submit applications for the Herbert F. and Virginia
White Professional Development Award. All IU Libraries staff on all
campuses in clerical, technical, and PA positions, and all individuals with
librarian appointments are eligible to apply for this award. The White
Award has been established to support the career growth of individuals who
have chosen librarianship as a profession. Further information about the
Award, the process, eligibility, criteria, and the application form are

*Herron Student Art & Eiteljorg Museum Native American Month Display
The IUPUI University Library will present a display of book art binding by
students of a Herron School of Art class, November 5 - 29, 2001, in the
Level One Lobby display area during regular Library hours. The book
binding display will include the creative works of students Philip Austin,
Anthony Cain, Angela Fritz, Mandy Falco, Martha Hartwell, Kelly Holden,
Jennifer Knapek, Autumn Mitchell, Rebecca Padget, Greg Prosser, Erin
Reeser, and Shanay Sotomayor.
These Herron students, with instruction by professors Karen Baldner and
Paul Brown, have participated in the introductory year of principles for
binding books and extending the book into expressive formats. Professor
Baldner explained, "The intention is to integrate narrative content with
materials and binding styles to find optimal expressive statements.
Traditional and non-traditional book binding formats were used, involving
cutting, folding and sewing techniques including Japanese stab binding,
french doors, concertina and piano hinge."
Autumn harvest activities and celebrations will be the focus of the Native
American Heritage programs during the month of November at the Eiteljorg
Museum of American Indians and Western Art. In support of this program,
the IUPUI University Library will also host a display of Native artifacts and
museum program materials for the month of November.
From November 3 - 17, a range of traditional native cultural elements will
be featured at the Eiteljorg Museum, located within walking distance of
IUPUI, adjacent to the White River State Park. Museum programs will
include the work of visiting artist Helena Guzman', the opening exhibition
of the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art, authentic
dinners with members of the Miami Nation of Indians, and the Harvest
Celebration Family Day. For further information about the Eiteljorg
