*Xiao Yu Accepts Position At UCLA
It is with mixed feelings that I announce the resignation of Xiao Yu as the Libraries Electronic and Data Librarian. Xiao Yu has accepted and will assume responsibilities as Associate Librarian and Information Core Director in the California Center for Population Research housed at UCLA on December 1, 2002. While we are excited that Xiao has this new opportunity, we will miss his expertise and the many services he has assisted us with, specifically in GIMSS: Government Information, Microforms and Statistical Services. While at IUB, he has served as the GIMSS representative to BERSERC and on the Web Development Team. I would also like to thank him for his work on developing an effective website on Data Services and Resources (http://www.indiana.edu/~libgpd/data/main.html) on a preliminary survey of social science data resources on campus including grants to support the research involved, and the many training efforts he has made with the GIMSS staff. Xiao recently completed a grant application for the IUB Multidisciplinary Ventures and Seminars Fund, which outlined a methodology for beginning a conversation on a Virtual Data Center. We will miss him but wish him all the best in sunny California!

*Wordsworth In Parliament: The Debate Over Copyright Extension
WORDSWORTH IN PARLIAMENT: THE DEBATE OVER COPYRIGHT EXTENSION, 1839-42 MARTHA WOODMANSEE (Department of English and Comparative Literature, Case Western Reserve University) Lilly Library Lounge--4.p.m., TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2002 Last month the case of *Eldred v. Ashcroft* was brought before the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998. The eleventh such extension in only forty years, the "Sonny Bono Act" increased authors' exclusive rights by 20 years to life plus 70 years post mortem, further eroding public access to information. In the seminar we shall examine the extended Parliamentary debate in which the engine of this trend, the romanticized conception of creative production at the center of the copyright law, achieved its present efficacy.
* * * MARTHA WOODMANSEE is author of THE AUTHOR, ART, AND THE MARKET: REREADING THE HISTORY OF AESTHETICS (Columbia University Press, 1994) and Co-Editor, with Peter Jaszi and Mark Osteen respectively, of two extremely influential volumes, THE CONSTRUCTION OF AUTHORSHIP: TEXTUAL APPROPRIATION IN LAW AND LITERATURE (Duke University Press, 1994; this a reprint of Vol. 10, No.2 of the _Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal_ [1992]) and NEW ECONOMIC CRITICISM: STUDIES AT THE INTERSECTION OF LITERATURE AND ECONOMICS (Routledge, 1999). She has published widely on Aesthetics, German and English Romantic Literature, and the History and Conception of Authorship, and has been long-time Executive Director of the Society for Critical Exchange. The material for both her lecture and seminar session arises from research conducted with the aid of a Guggenheim Fellowship this past year.
