*Law and Political Science Day
Election Day, November 7, 2000, Proclaimed Law and Political Science Day in the Academic Library Community
"A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy, or, perhaps both." ...James Madison, letter to W.T. Barry, August 4, 1822.
Law and political science librarians help members of the academic community stay abreast of issues of the day, thus making them more informed voters. To celebrate this contribution to academe, Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) President Lizabeth Wilson has proclaimed Election Day, November 7, 2000, as Law & Political Science Day in academic librarianship.
WHEREAS, The people of the United States will exercise their right of ultimate participation in the democratic process on November 7, 2000; and
WHEREAS, The members of the academic community look to their libraries to provide the information to help them become involved on issues of the day; and
WHEREAS, Law and political science librarians guide members of the academic community to the appropriate sources of that information; and
WHEREAS, These librarians come together for support and professional growth in the Law and Political Science Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lizabeth Wilson, by virtue of the authority vested in me as President of ACRL, do hereby proclaim November 7, 2000 as
in the academic library community.
IN OFFICIAL RECOGNITION WHEREOF, I hereby affix my signature this 2nd day of October, 2000.
Lizabeth Wilson
