Effective November 2, Sarah McKee resigned from her position as Acquisitions Specialist in Technical Services at IU-Bloomington.

Effective November 5, Harrison Wick accepted the position of Acquisitions Coordinator in Technical Services at IU-Bloomington. Prior to accepting this position, Harrison worked in the Preservation Department at IU-Bloomington.

If you have an announcement you would like to place on this page, please send the information to shoff@indiana.edu. Please note this page is designed for announcements that have a duration of more than one week. All other announcements (ie Holiday party announcements, Library Picnic, etc.) would be placed in IUL News. Libraries Human Resources will edit announcements to determine if they should be posted to this website.

*ProCite Training for IU Librarians and Staff

ISI Bibliographic Training for IU Librarians and Staff

On Monday, November 12, Gary Siler will be visiting us from ISI ResearchSoft to offer an in- depth training session on the bibliographic management software tool ProCite. For more information about ProCite and the special agreement signed between IU and ISI ResearchSoft, see

This class is limited to IU Libraries staff and librarians and IT staff. It will introduce you to ProCite if you have never used it before and allow you to polish your skills if you are already a user. The class will be hands-on.

*Paper presented by Charlotte Hess and Elinor Ostrom

Charlotte Hess and Elinor Ostrom will present their paper "Artifacts, Facilities, and Content: Information as a Common-Pool Resource" at the Conference on the Public Domain, Duke University Law School, Durham, NC, Nov. 9-11, 2001.

The conference will focus on the effects of recent copyright and patent legislation on the intellectual public domain. Other presenters include Pamela Samuelson, James Boyle, and Lawrence Lessig. The papers are available on the conference page at: http://www.law.duke.edu/pd Comments are welcome.

LIBRARY EVENT

*IU GIS Day Open House

GIS Day 2001 is a global event that celebrates geographic information systems (GIS), the exciting technology that uses geography to change the world. This year there will be an open house event here at IU on Wednesday November 14th from 3-5 p.m. in the Geography/Map Library (Student Building). GIS is being used at more than 40 departments across IU campuses. Come by and learn what GIS is, how GIS is being used at IU, what GIS classes and resources exist on campus, and see GIS in action. *Preservation Open House

The Preservation Department will be holding an open house on Monday,

November 19. Throughout the day, IU Libraries staff are welcome to come in and find out more about the services the department offers. Our most recent addition, the new Kasemake K503A box making machine will be in action and we will offer a number of demonstration and information sessions throughout the day. A schedule of these activities will be in next week's IUL news. Hope to see you there!
