*Review and Assessment of Halls of Residence Libraries
HRL Operations to Transfer to Residential Programs & Services Next Fiscal Year a review and assessment of the Halls of Residence Libraries (HRL) was recently completed.
The review was a joint undertaking with the Division of Residential Programs and Services (RPS), the primary funding partner of HRL. Following nearly a year of study, the Libraries have agreed to transfer full operation of and responsibility for residence hall libraries to RPS.
The formal transfer of operations will be completed by July 1, 2001. The Division of Residential Programs and Services will continue to offer circulating materials in the residence centers. The three full-time HRL staff currently based in UGLS will be reassigned to positions in the Libraries.

*Distributed Education Library Services
Effective January 2001, the Reference Department will assume responsibility for coordinating the delivery of distributed education library services to students and faculty. Under the leadership of Anne Haynes, the Reference Department will monitor trends as well as plan and deliver services to students and faculty in the IUB Distributed Education environment. "Distributed Education" includes services to all IUB affiliates not present on the Bloomington campus: students enrolled in Continuing Studies and other programs specifically designed to offer credit courses to students not present on campus; it also includes graduate students finishing dissertation work off-campus (these account for about one-half of the present clientele) and faculty on sabbatical or research leave away from campus. An IUB Libraries' Distributed Education Advisory Committee, charged with future planning and innovation, will also be formed and chaired by Julie Bobay.
As the Undergraduate Library is transforming into the Information Commons and taking on many new assignments, I would like to thank them for their contributions to distributed education over the last three years-with special thanks to Ashley Vollmer and Joyce Owens. And now welcome the Reference Department, Anne Haynes and Julie Bobay for ushering in a new era of service for our constituents at a distance.

*Invitation To Participate In InULA
As incoming President of InULA for 2000-01, I invite you to join us this year and to participate in the many programs and committees that this exciting and vibrant organization offers. This year, in addition to the Book Sale, Communications, Constitution and By-Laws, Program and Social, and Professional Development committees, we are establishing three ad hoc committees. The Committee to Propose a Bloomington Book Sale Location will be investigating possible alternative sites for our major fund-raising activity. The InULA Indianapolis Book Sale Committee will investigate the possibility of developing a book sale in Indianapolis as a new fund-raising activity. The InULA Heritage Committee will begin the task of identifying and documenting InULA Scholars and InULA Researchers, those who have been the recipients of scholarship and research incentive funds. This committee will help analyze and develop the organization's historical record, a task started during InULA's 25th Anniversary Celebration.
A few weeks ago, a small group of members assembled in Indianapolis to enjoy the Eiteljorg Museum, Jack Gilfoy & His Naptown Jazz Quintet in Concert, The Jazz Age in Paris, 1914-1940, an exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian, and an informal dinner. We are anticipating some exceptional and appealing programs this year.
InULA has benefits for all, IUL librarians, SLIS faculty, emeriti, students, staff, and friends. I invite you to renew your membership or join InULA for the first time. I also encourage you to volunteer for a committee. We have identified chairs for most committees, but need willing participants. I would welcome your ideas, questions, and comments as the InULA Board develops plans for the year.
