3. Workshop At IU South Bend

A Workshop on "Performance Standards for Academic Reference Librarians" will be held in April of 1999 at the IU South Bend campus. The tentative date is April 23, 1999. It will be a full-day workshop designed to give academic librarians experience developing standards. Although the focus will be on standards for reference librarians, the workshop will include enough general material to be of interest to all IU librarians. The workshop is sponsored by InULA through a Professional Development Grant to Carol Rusinek and Cynthia Szymanski at IU Northwest Library and assistance from IU South Bend librarians. There will be no cost for InULA members. Mark your calendars and watch for further information this Winter.

---Larry W. Griffin, President, InULA

4. IUPUI Library Granted Status As Independent NACO Library

Three years ago, under the leadership of Vania Goodwin, the Cataloging Dept. at IUPUI University Library began training to enable University Library to become an independent NACO participanting library. NACO (Name Authorities Cooperative Project) is a Library of Congress program, which grants participants authority to create or enhance personal and corporate names in the OCLC and LC databases.

After some delays in training, due to reorganization and re-allocation of personnel resources, Jonathan Makepeace took up the NACO banner and has continued training under Marty Joachim at IU Bloomington. Last week University Library was granted independent NACO status by LC. This will be especially useful for us, as we add materials to our philanthropic and German-Americana collections, as well as for local businesses and government agencies. Please join us in congratulating Jonathan for a job well-done. We look forward to seeing more of the InIU symbol on the national authority records. And thank you, Marty, for your patience and guidance.
