*Jenkins Award Nominations, IUB

The William Evans Jenkins Award may be presented annually in recognition of truly outstanding contributions to the Indiana University Libraries or to the library profession in general by a present or former librarian. The award is based on one or more of the following criteria: (1) That the librarian has made a professional contribution which has had significant influence on the operations of the Indiana University Libraries; (2) That the librarian has made a significant professional contribution which earns the recognition of the University community; (3) That the librarian has made a significant contribution to the library profession which reflects achievement in librarianship at Indiana University; (4) That the librarian has shown excellence in service to the Indiana University Libraries as evidenced by continuous leadership and innovation. The following items may be used in support of the application: publications, research projects, grants, fellowships, teaching, guest lectures, consulting services, training workshops, and national, state, and local ofrfices and chairs in the library field or related subject fields.

If you INTEND TO NOMINATE someone for the award this academic year, you need to send a message to this effect to Yolanda Cooper, Libraries Human Resources Officer (ycooperb@indiana.edu) by January 15, 2003. Please note that only this "intent to nominate" is due then. The nomination dossier itself is due by 31 January 2003.

*Information Commons Construction, IUB

Construction of the Information Commons in the Main Library will begin on January 6, 2003 and may affect you in the following ways:

1. The first parking bay in the Main Library lot that currently provides spaces for metered and handicapped parking will be taken over by construction staging. Metered and handicapped parking will be shifted one bay south and reduce the number of A parking spaces.

2. The sidewalk leading from the parking lot to the SLIS entrance will be closed. South entrances to SLIS and the Main Library, however, will remain open.

3. Construction is expected to last through July 2003. The construction crew will make every effort to minimize disruptions, including performing especially noisy tasks at night.
