*Library Services & Copyright Developments Program at IUPUI
Digital Millennium Copyright Act:
New Challenges and New Opportunities for Libraries and Archives
Libraries often make copies of copyrighted works for research, reserves, interlibrary loans, preservation, and many other activities. For years the ability to make copies has been the subject of debate about "fair use" and about a separate legal provision applicable specifically to libraries. The DMCA, which became law only a year ago, revises a few important provisions of the law for libraries, whether working with print or digital applications. It also raises anew the questions about fair use for electronic reserves and other services. This program will be of special interest to all librarians and archivists and to researchers who regularly obtain copies of works from library collections.
Join the Copyright Management Center for a wide-ranging discussion, which will take place on Tuesday, December 7, 1999, 10:00 - 11:30 AM, in IUPUI University Library Rm. 1116. We also will distribute a new brochure and other materials focusing exclusively on library and archive activities.
The program is open to all, but seating is limited. Please let us know if you plan to attend by calling (317) 274-4400, by sending your reservation to copyinfo@iupui.edu, or by reaching us through the Copyright Management Center website at http://www.iupui.edu/~copyinfo/. For additional information about this and other CMC educational programs, please see http://www.iupui.edu/~copyinfo/eduprog.html.
