2. Web Site Wins National Award
The Indiana University Librarians Association (InULA)is very pleased to announce that a research incentive fund grant award has been made to Lorraine Olley, Head of Preservation.
Lorraine will use her award to help fund attendance at a workshop on digital imaging for libraries and archives to be offered by the Cornell University Library Department of Preservation and Conservation, July 14-19, 1996. The workshop "is designed as an intensive one-week training program to provide participants with the means to develop a baseline knowledge about the use of digital image technology, from conversion to presentation. The training will focus on the reformatting of paper- or film-based library and archival materials and the use of digital images in a networked environment." Congratulations to Lorraine on her successful application. We look forward to hearing about the workshop later this year.
In keeping with this year's goal of advancing the profession through support of the individual, InULA is pleased and proud to have awarded grants totaling $3,000 to seven individuals during the period August 1995 through June 1996. In addition to Lorraine, this year's awardees were Jean Poland, Cinda May, Jo Burgess, and Margaret Harter at IUB, Julie Su at IUPUI, and Karen Nissen at IUPU-Columbus. The InULA board and membership congratulate all seven grant recipients, and we hope that their successes will encourage even more applications from InULA members on all IU campuses in the coming year.
The next deadline for grant applications is August 31, 1996. Guidelines and application forms are available from Mary Krutulis (krutulis@indiana.edu) and Phil Bantin (bantin@indiana.edu).
Sue Stancu and Ralph Papakhian hosted and conducted a Workshop in Music Cataloging, June 10-14, at the William and Gayle Cook Music Library. Ten participants from ten different states attended the week-long workshop which included tours of the Simon Music Library and Recital Hall Center, and the Musical Arts Center.
The Spring 1996 issue of Midwest Open-Air Museums Magazine features an article by Wylie House Curator Bonnie Williams. "Playing in the Stream of History: A Flexible Approach to First-Person Interpretation" describes an innovative interpretive method developed at Wylie House.
2. WEB SITE WINS NATIONAL AWARD
The Law Library will be awarded the American Association of Law Libraries* Non-print Public Relations Award for the recently revised and enhanced Law School and Law Library world wide web site (http://www.law.indiana.edu). The award will be presented during the Annual Meeting of the Association, held in Indianapolis in late July.
The enhanced web site provides a consistent approach to public relations for the School through the use of the familiar logo, photographs, and textual information seen in the new Law School information brochure and the People and Programs brochure. A number of new services are provided through the web site, including telnet access to the online catalog, renewal of Law Library books, and a searchable La w School Events Calendar. In addition, faculty members and librarians have their own homepages, which feature a photograph, biographical information, and an electronic mail feature.
The Virtual Law Library (http://www.law.indiana.edu/law/v-lib/lawindex.html) has also received a "facelift". Material is now organized both by organization type and by legal topic. The r evamped Virtual Law Library was recently featured as a valuable law school web site in The Internet Newsletter: Legal and Business Aspects (June 1996).
The Law School is currently among a small group of law schools that are playing a leadership role in electronic publishing, making legal information more accessible to the state, nation, and the world. The efforts of the Library in maintaining and adapting the web site are essential to the Law School's mission to continue its leadership role in the areas of electronic publishing and the use of technology in the classroom.
