1. FACULTY/STAFF NEWS

Effective June 28 Pat Boyer retired from her position as Senior Financial Records Assistant in the Serials department.

Effective July 1, Emma Dederick-Colon accepted the position of Electronic Music Resources Librarian in the Music Library. Emma previously worked in the Archives of Traditional Music as a Grant Cataloger. She received her BS in Music/Spanish Literature and her MLS from Indiana University.

2. EXHIBITIONS AT THE LILLY LIBRARY

"Voyages of Scientific Discovery to the New World, 1700-1850" will open on July 5. This exhibition, curated by Professor Richard Sorrenson, documents some of the early voyages to Antarctica, the Americas, Tahiti and Hawaii. A gallery talk by Richard Sorrenson on his exhibition will be given on July 18 at 4:30 p.m. It will be followed by a reception in the Lilly Library Lounge. This event is free and open to the public. Please call 855-2453 if you plan to attend.

"In Search of the Picturesque: The Victorian Photographs of George Giberne" on display June 28 through September 4 features images of the English countryside, cathedrals, ruins and seascapes.

"British and American Legal Materials" includes drafts of the Constitution and an early copy of the Magna Carta.

"George Alfred Henty" highlights this British author's adventure stories for boys.

"Kiddie Ditties" is a display of colorful songs about and for children.

"Picnics" presents a variety of menus and recipes from picnics of the past.

3. FUN IN THE PARK...JULY 18TH

All IUB Libraries Employees: Please plan on attending the Indiana University Libraries Annual Family Picnic on Thursday, July 18, 1996 from 11:30-3:30 pm at Bryan Park. Lunch is provided for those who RSVP (Fried Chicken/Vegetarian Selection and soft drinks) and Free Softball (bring your bat and glove--one person has to bring a ball) and Swimming (at a bargain price) will be available. Feel free to show off your culinary talents with your colleagues by bringing a dessert or treat to share. The special events committee is working hard to plan the best picnic ever, so come join the fun. If you are planning to join us for lunch, it is essential that you RSVP by JULY 11, 1996 so we can plan for the appropriate amount of food. Any questions? Call 5-3403.
