After a two-year leave of absence, Rachael Stoeltje has returned to the Libraries Preservation Department as the Image Collections Care Coordinator. During her leave, Rachael completed the Photographic Preservation and Archival Training Program at the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY. She spent last year in San Francisco, California, preserving and archiving the estate of the late Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia.

In her new position, Rachael will be working to develop and implement a system for preservation, storage and organization of photographic, film and video collections across the campus. She will survey and identify collections most in need of preservation attention, monitor storage environments and assist in the development of a database to improve access to these collections. She can be reached in the Preservation Department at 855-6282 and at RSTOELTJ.

2. THE RESERVE CATALOG IS UP AND RUNNING

Students and faculty now have a new way to find what is on reserve for their courses, the Reserve Web Catalog. By accessing the following URL:

http://www.indiana.edu/~libreser/Iforms/catalog.html

one can search the reserve catalog by instructor's last name, course number and keyword. The Reserve Web Catalog is a by-product of the creation of electronic reserves. Ella Liderman (UCS) developed a SAS program which gathers all items in NOTIS which have a reserve location code and then creates a database of various fields of the selected NOTIS records. The program runs every night and transfers the database to our departmental account on www.indiana.edu. Jian Liu (ERDS) adapted an indexing/searching program to index the database and provide the search engine. Jay Wilkerson (Media & Reserve Services) designed the Web page for the catalog and along with Catherine Berndt (Media & Reserve Services) spent countless hours assuring that all reserve NOTIS records were transferring and displaying properly in the web catalog as well as cleaning up "dirty" NOTIS reserve records. Catherine also had to revise many aspects of how reserve items are processed in order to accommodate this new method of accessing our reserve collection. I would also like to mention the support Mark Fedderson (Library Automation) provided this effort. Thank you to everyone who helped us accomplish this project.
