1. THANKS!!!

Thanks to Michael Fling and Ralph Papakhian from the Faculty/Staff Development Committee for taking groups of librarians and staff on a tour of the new Music Library. The tour was very interesting and informative. Thanks also to Connie Mayer for her demonstration of Variations.

2. PUBLICATION FROM COPYRIGHT MANAGEMENT CENTER

Kenneth Crews, director of the Copyright Management Center located in the IUPUI University Library, is the author of a booklet, "Copyright Law and Graduate Research: New Media, New Rights, and Your New Dissertation." It is an update of a 1992 edition and is published by UMI Company for distribution to graduate programs, students, and faculty advisors throughout the country.

Although the title and text often refer to graduate study, the booklet is a general discussion of fair use and copyright ownership that may be helpful for all authors of scholarly works. Copies are available to read or borrow in the Copyright Management Center (UL1125). To obtain copies for yourself, your class, or your group, contact UMI at 800-521-0600, ext. 7020. The Copyright Management Center provides service to all IU campuses. Visit its Web site at http://www.iupui.edu/it/copyinfo/home.html.

3. VISITORS TO THE IUB LIBRARIES

The Libraries are hosting two visitors from Warsaw University Library, Henryk Hollender, Director, and Anna Cwilag, Academic Secretary/Cataloger. Warsaw University Library was established with the University in 1816, and is the second largest in Poland with 2.3 million items. The visitors will be on the IUB campus September 1-15, as part of an academic exchange program established by the Polish Studies Center at Indiana University and the American Studies Center at Warsaw University. Henryk and Anna, will be visiting a number of units within the Main Library, branch libraries, and the IUPUI campus.

4. INDIANA ASIS 1996 FALL PROGRAM

Collaboration over the Net with Habanero What's hotter than the hottest Java? Habanero, of course! Developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), and named for the hottest pepper, Habanero is a Java-based set of tools that enables collaboration and information-sharing over the World Wide Web. Come see Chris Seguin from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) talk about and demonstrate Habanero and Habanero-based tools. Then, join in on a general discussion about Internet-based collaboration. As always, Indiana ASIS meetings are a great opportunity to relax over dinner, learn about new technologies, and meet fellow information professionals and students.
