1. THANKS!!!
Thanks to Yolanda Cooper-Birdine for planning the extensive schedule of visits and activities for Henryk Hollender and Anna Cwilag of Warsaw University. Thanks also to all in the Libraries and Units who met with our visitors and provided information, hos pitality, and collegiality. Both Anna and Henryk found the visit to Indiana University most helpful and enjoyable. I am sure they join me in expressing appreciation for this initial visit in a developing relationship between our two universities.
--Pat Steele, Associate Dean

8. ERGO INFO
The most healthy position for wrists while keyboarding is "neutral." This means that the knuckles, wrists, and forearms should form a straight line. Elbows should form a 90 degree angle while hanging at your sides. It is very important for the shoulders to be relaxed during keyboarding.
--Ergonomics Team
During the two years since the Ergonomics Team was established, the team has been very active. The focus of the team's activities has been education. The team recognizes that prevention of physical problems related to work is the most important goal it can have. In the interest of educating library employees in the area of e rgonomics, the Ergonomics Team has sponsored a number of programs. These included:
Judy Kiel, occupational therapist--A presentation on general ergonomic issues and several workstation audits. Greg Crouch--A presentation on VDTs and radiation issues and an inspection of the 3rd floor work areas. Christine Haack, occupational therapist--General ergonomics discussion. Diane Thayer, YMCA--Office yoga session. The team will also sponsor monthly "pre-yoga" sessions, with Betty Jo Irvine as the teacher, beginning in October.
One of the team's first projects was a survey of all library employees to determine the level of knowledge in the area of ergonomics and to identify the types of problems that exist in library work areas.
In addition to the speakers brought into the library, the team has visited work sites and worked with individual librarians and staff on a variety of ergonomic issues. The team also prepared a packet of information that was sent to every library employee and is given to each new employee.
