4. RETROSPECTIVE CONVERSION COMPLETED

The last book in the retrospective conversion of IUPUI University Library has cleared Cataloging. There are still a few shelflist cards for some missing and lost titles, but as of September 23, 1996, the IUPUI University Library's LC collection is in IUCAT.

Special thanks to Jan Canganelli and Kathy Logan, copy catalogers, Pat McWilliams, Claire Dunigan, Wil Graham, and other student helpers now departed to other pastures. Thanks to Mary Beth Minick and liaisons who helped decide about reference books, and to James Kendrick, Kari Jahr, and the Access gang for all the extra searching and reshelving, and to 0avid Frisby and his helpers for all the extra processing.

I'm sure I've left out some notables. The point being that this was very much a multi-team effort, which we could not have accomplished without everyone's help and enthusiasm. Thank you, thank you, one and all.

ON TO HERRON and COLUMBUS!
--Joe Harmon, Cataloging Team Leader

5. IUPUI UNIVERSITY LIBRARY HOMEPAGE UPDATE

Over the past summer, IUPUI University Library has been in the process of reevaluating and redesigning the library homepage, often referred to as the Library Information System (LIS). The original homepage was introduced to the public in April of 1994 and was an exciting and innovative application of web technology in a library environment. Based on more than two years of patron feedback and a review process that included faculty input, we have developed a new version which we would like to introduce to the university community for review and comment before deployment.

Timeline: October 1996: The new version of the homepage will be presented on machines in the library with a clear link to the old homepage. January 1997: The new version of the homepage will replace the current homepage.

New Features: A Welcome button for first time visitors featuring library maps to identify call number locations, facilities, offices and other resources; A new navigation bar featuring alphabetical index buttons to direct users quickly to resources by title; Direct links to Course Reserves, a Subject Directory, Indexes to Articles and Television/Video resources; and a Search Engine for ready access to library web pages.

URL: http://andretti.iupui.edu/newlib.html (This address will be in effect until January 1, 1997, when it will then be accessible at http://www-lib.iupui.edu)

Please send comments to Sharon Hay at shay@library.iupui.edu or feel free to use the Suggestions box on the new version of the homepage.

6. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS ON WEB

The Special Collections of the Ruth Lilly Medical Library has put a World Wide Web site in place. This ongoing project is the cooperative effort of Nancy Eckerman and Lydia Chuang. http://www.medlib.iupui.edu/hom/homdept.html
